After Robert Murphy announced his retirement and the Murphy in the Morning Show ended, Dave moved across the Loop from the Merchandise Mart to the Prudential Building to join Classic Rock Queen Patti Haze on WCKG. When 105.9 switched to comedy talk in 1996, legendary personality and trail-blazing shock jock Steve Dahl tapped me, I mean Dave, as his own news dude sidekick on what would expand into a 5-hour comedy talk-fest. Steve gave Dave’s daily humor essays the name Dave’s Rave and introduced them to a wider audience. It was a joy to be a cog in a large ensemble, and a personal joy to inhabit the seat next to Murphy in the Morning veteran and pal Joy Masada, who was the third primary voice and the female presence on the Dahl Show. Steve spotlighted the voices of producer Mark “Shemp” DeYoung, Jack of all trades Joe Kraslen, and engineer Pete Zimmerman.  Lots of others were enlisted as familiar members of the growing gang, including Stan Lawrence and Terry Armour, Computer Ed Silha, Spike Manton, the late Don Crabb, Jimi Racanelli, Stoney Frothingham and a cast of frequent callers who became bona fide personalities. Another Dahl Show gang member was Ali Gerakaris, who began as my news intern and morphed into a cherished lifetime friend. She later continued our collaboration by adding me to her Apple Vacations travel blogging and video team. During the Dahl Show years, Dave wrote and performed well over 1,700 four-minute daily monologues. Here are a random baker’s dozen.
