The Rooms of TRS--They Put the Sweet in The Royal Suites Yucatan

The Riviera Maya was originally defined as the tourism corridor along coastal Route 307 descending Caribbean Mexico from Playa del Carmen in the north to Tulum in the south. As new resorts proliferated, that definition has expanded to include Puerto Morelos farther north to Punta Allen in the far south.

And smack-dab dead-center in the middle of this Mexican Mecca, midway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, is Palladium Hotel Group’s fantabulous rebuild of its ultimate-elegance resort: TRS Yucatan Hotel; from which a treasure-trove of popular destinations is a short ride away. Although the top-shelf amenities of the TRS will likely keep most guests happily confined on-campus for the duration of a humdinger stay in crackerjack comfort. As the Maya Riviera reopens gradually from the Covid shutdown, TRS and the other Palladium resorts in this complex were again accepting guests as of October 2, 2020.

Palladium’s own design and construction team is headquartered here and planned and executed the extreme makeover of the brand’s premier property down to the smallest detail, including the addition of a state-of-the-art TRS portal for smart phones and tablets that makes it a breeze to ask for a ride, book a dinner reservation, speak to a personal butler and order from room service. But that is the subject for another blog (See The Tech of TRS). This is about the rooms.

The name of the resort promises there are no tiny rooms at The Royal Suites. Some suites are larger than others and with greater amenities, but all are spacious and beautifully and cleverly appointed. Pictured is the building we stayed in. First floor—near side.

The design of our room is called the Master Royal Suite. The layout is living room (pictured), closet and lock-box corridor, bathroom, bedroom and spacious balcony overlooking water with large jet-tub. Big-screen TVs in both front room and bedroom.

Anita was impressed with the closets. The design eliminates doors, which block views of and access to clothes. I confess she chooses both our outfits and the illuminated unobstructed hanging racks make that job easier. Also brightly illuminated are sloped platforms for shoes. It’s like a store display!

Anita suggests asking your butler (You have a butler) to bring more hangers as you are being shown around your room at check-in. Takes care of that off the bat. The drawers are on tracks that draw them closed with a gentle push.

This room had a comfortable king bed and bedside Bluetooth speaker. If you wish a pillow with a different firmness, the butler will swap it out.

The bathroom features high-end products. The rain shower and toilet are concealed behind dark reflective glass. Lights come on when the doors are opened.

The Romance Bungalow is the most private room at TRS Resort. It’s a comfy cottage on the water and a canoe is included! We returned in 2020 before the pandemic shutdown and stayed in a bungalow. Loved it! And the outdoor shower!

In this particular configuration the closet and coffee bar area is just inside the front door and its bedroom is airy with a soaring beamed ceiling.

That tub!

Outside is a terrace made for vacation vegetating.

Between the bedroom and this double-sink bathroom is a small vanity with makeup mirror.

Beyond the bathroom is an open-air outdoor Mayan shower.

The Junior Suite is another cool room configuration and the rear door from the bedroom leads to a tropical surprise.

A number of the Junior Suites come with a private plunge pool with marble deck and benches. Grab a drink and cool off!

Junior suites are quite roomy with the illuminated closets and bathroom fixtures arranged in yet another design. There are several more room configurations to accommodate different guest preferences. Check the TRS website.

All rooms come with top-shelf spirits, mini bar fridge beers & drinks, and coffees. If you prefer other brands and beverages, you only have to ask and they will be substituted with a smile. Pre-Covid you could ordered your preferred items in advance of your arrival. I'm told that now that all rooms are cleaned and sealed one orders preferences upon arrival and they are delivered immediately.

And no matter where you stay at TRS, you are only a click away on your smart phone or tablet hotel portal from a request for a ride to any other location across the Palladium resort complex.
