On the Deepwater Horizon Anniversary—La Mer

Before Bobby Darin turned it into Beyond the Sea, it was La Mer, written and performed by Charles Trenet. The original lyrics translated roughly to this:

The sea—Dancing the length of the great bays—Its glints of silver—The sea—Changing reflections—Under the rain.

The sea—Under the sky of the multi-hued summer—Its white flock—With angels so pure—The sea—Herds them into a stunning blue—Infinite

The sea—Near the ponds—These great wet reeds—See—The birds of white—The houses rusted red

The sea—Cradling them all—Along the lengths of the great bays—And a song of love—The sea—Cradles my heart for life
